Brimestone Hill Society Press Release on Passing of John James Bass
Mr. John James Bass, master stone mason from St. Kitts passed away last week in the island of St. Eustatius and is to be interred in Statia on Tuesday 12 June 2012.
Mr. Bass has left a tangible legacy throughout the island of St. Kitts. He rebuilt the Commissariat complex at Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park; what is now the present day Park Manager’s Office, Gift Shop and Canteen.
Among many other examples of his stone masonry around the island are, rebuilding the chimney at Bourryeau Estate and laying down the entire mile stones around the island.
